Ladle Sanding System
Once a batch of molten steel has been produced in the BOF vessel, it must be poured (tapped) into a ladle so that the molten steel can be transported to other steelmaking processes, which eventually will result in the ladle itself being tapped of the molten steel with which it was used to transport.

Automated Tapping System
Originally, once a batch of molten steel had been prepared in the BOF vessel, the molten steel would be poured or “tapped” from the vessel into a ladle. This process required the manual tilting of the vessel via joystick controls to allow for a maximum steel depth over the tap-hole to maximize the tapping of steel out of the vessel into the awaiting ladle, while minimizing the slag transfer via the tap-hole or over the lip of the vessel mouth.

Vacuum Degasser Sampling System
Once a ladle has been filled with molten steel, the ladle is brought to the Ladle Metallurgical Facility (LMF) so that the steel can be further processed to ensure it meets the quality standards associated to the product being produced.

Mould Improvements
A major steel producer in Hamilton, Ontario, required their continuous caster to operate faster than its designed speed in order to keep up with increased product demand. The caster uses a rectangular mould with the two long edges being fixed and the two narrow edges (width) being adjustable. All edges are constantly cooled in order to solidify the outer edges of the metal as it passes through.
